Expert Witness Spotlight: Gary Robinson, Chartered Structural Engineer

05 December 2025

This month we highlight Gary Robinson, one of our experienced chartered structural engineering expert witnesses. Gary has an extensive range of experience having worked as part of design teams on buildings both in the UK and internationally and having gained significant experience in both structural design and industry-applied research.

Gary is known for his passion in relation to concrete structures and technology, with this evidenced by the wide range of landmark concrete structures Gary has been directly involved in delivering. Gary also gained an engineering doctorate due to his work in assessing the structural performance of precast building typologies with a leading international concrete manufacturer. This also led to the realisation (and Agrément certification) of novel concrete products and other structural components, and his continued relationship with leading UK universities has led to the publication of technical papers in leading engineering journals and conferences, as well as lecturing, supervising roles and appointments to viva panels as an industrial expert. Gary’s work has also formed industry design guidance documents and has been published within ICE, IStructE and Concrete Centre technical literature

A doubly chartered engineer, with both the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Gary also recently became a Fellow of the IStructE. Gary is currently appointed to two IStructE Technical Committees, with his involvement as part of the ‘Design Practice, Risk & Structural Safety Committee’, as well as the ‘Research Panel’, allowing Gary to continue influence and guide current engineering practice.

Whilst concrete is a clear passion, Gary also has extensive experience in the structural design and delivery of a range of building types and structural materials, leading the delivery of awarding winning high-rise residential, complex steel frames and the refurbishment of Grade 2 and 2* listed assets

As an expert witness, Gary has worked on a range disputes both within the UK, the Persian Gulf and South East Asia.

Since joining the Ridge Technical Expert Witness team Gary has been instructed as the lead expert in several disputes relating to his beloved concrete. These have included UK litigation proceedings involving alleged design defects to reinforced concrete frames and a series of adjudications associated with defects to multi-storey concrete basement constructions.

It’s not all about Concrete however, with Gary also instructed as the lead expert in a series of adjudications on a high profile, multi-million pound, steel-framed, mixed-use, UK development and in adjudication proceedings relating to a prominent, central London, early 20th century, Grade 2 listed, masonry clad steel frame.
