Site details and constraints
The Castle is ecologically significant and environmentally sensitive. It is a Grade I listed building situated within a Grade II registered park and garden, the subject of a Scheduled Ancient Monument and sited within a Conservation Area. It is one of the most important domestic buildings of the early 16th Century.

Outcomes
Planning permission and Listed Building Consent was granted for the largest new development of the castle since the 16th century.
The approved alterations included 14 additional guest bedrooms, a new spa, swimming pool, brasserie restaurant and function suite.
These permissions will ensure the longevity of the Grade I listed heritage asset by ensuring the long-term viability of the hotel business at the castle.
