A vision for sustainable leisure living
Set within the rolling landscape of Dorset, Silverlake is a luxury holiday home development unlike any other. Developed by Habitat First Group – also behind award-winning schemes in the Cotswolds and Devon – Silverlake transforms a former quarry and WWII airfield into a vibrant, nature-led retreat.
Ridge has been supporting the project since 2022, providing planning application expertise and reserved matters submissions across multiple phases. Our involvement has grown alongside the development, now encompassing technical support for the site’s expanding leisure offer, including restaurants, a spa and a public-access lido.
Planning for complexity and character
Silverlake is a site rich in history and complexity. The legacy of its quarry past presents significant level challenges, requiring careful coordination with architects and landscape designers to ensure stability and suitable retaining structures.
Our team used advanced 3D modelling software to create accurate level models, enabling the design team to plan earthworks with precision. This early-stage collaboration has been critical to maintaining the site’s integrity while delivering a seamless guest experience.
Engineering for flexibility and growth
The development model at Silverlake is unique: buyers purchase plots and select from a catalogue of bespoke holiday home designs. With planning permission for up to 1,000 units and around 100 already built, Ridge continues to support phased delivery across the site.
We’ve also adapted to evolving market demands – supporting new additions like a padel court on the lake and responding to changing economic conditions and buyer preferences. Our flexible approach ensures the development remains relevant and resilient.
Nature-led infrastructure
Silverlake’s design places nature at its core. Surface water is managed through a series of interconnected lakes, supported by swales and wetland features that enhance biodiversity and create a haven for birdlife.
These systems not only maintain water quality for recreational use but also contribute to the ecological richness of the site. The landscape architecture, led by The Landmark Practice and Willmore Isles, complements the engineering with thoughtful, habitat-sensitive design.
Looking ahead
Construction is now underway on the next phase of leisure amenities, including a new restaurant, spa and lido – set to open to the public by summer next year. Meanwhile, planning continues for future village phases, with final delivery expected to span several years.
Silverlake is a testament to Ridge’s ability to deliver planning and technical excellence in complex, evolving environments. From quarry to quiet luxury, we’re proud to help shape a destination that balances leisure, landscape and long-term sustainability.
