Automated People Mover, Los Angeles World Airports Los Angeles

Connecting teams. Accelerating progress.

THE ASPIRATION
Transforming transport at a global gateway
As part of a major $2 billion upgrade, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) set out to create a new way for passengers to move around LAX. The Automated People Mover (APM) – a 2.25-mile elevated rail system – would link terminals, parking and transit hubs through five new stations and a maintenance facility. But with the airport remaining fully operational throughout construction, and the project delivered through a complex Public-Private Partnership (P3) and design-build joint venture, keeping things on track required careful coordination between multiple design teams working to tight deadlines.

OUR RESPONSE
Uniting teams behind one vision
We provided Project Management support to bring structure and clarity to a fast-moving, high-stakes programme. Using Flow, our specialist planning methodology, we built a single, connected design schedule that brought eight major workstreams together – ensuring everyone was aligned on priorities and timing.

We ran collaborative planning workshops, developed weekly work plans and helped teams resolve the blockers slowing down progress. Alongside this, we provided consistent support in identifying key risks and keeping the bigger picture in focus. We also made sure everyone had access to the same information. Our cloud-based dashboards gave the client, the LINXS Constructors JV, and individual teams real-time visibility of progress, milestones and issues, boosting accountability and helping avoid delays.

THE RESULT
Integrated planning, streamlined delivery
Our approach brought cohesion to a highly fragmented programme. With every design package linked to a shared schedule and clear interdependencies, risks were identified early and deadlines were met more reliably. Regular reporting and digital transparency gave the client confidence and allowed LAWA’s operations to continue without disruption.

THE LASTING IMPACT
Enabling efficiency for a world-class airport
By introducing structure and clarity at a critical stage, we helped ensure the successful delivery of one of LAWA’s flagship infrastructure upgrades. The APM now supports smoother journeys for millions of passengers, while our planning expertise has set a standard for collaboration on complex transport megaprojects.
