Birmingham City Football Club Birmingham

Delivering a high-performance, future-proofed training facility

THE CHALLENGE
Rebuilding and raising standards

After a fire damaged facilities at Wast Hills Training Ground (now the Knighthead Training and Academy Grounds), Birmingham City Football Club embarked on a major redevelopment project. Initially focused on replacing the affected infrastructure through an insurance scheme, the project’s scope expanded to upgrade key areas such as the kitchen, canteen, changing rooms and offices. To further enhance the site, additional improvements were made to achieve Category 1 academy status, including modular player lounges, grandstands, landscaping and improved security.

OUR RESPONSE

We worked closely with multiple teams on-site, making sure all their needs were met. Our team managed specialist contractors to design, procure and install tailored solutions while leading stakeholder workshops to keep expectations aligned. Achieving the necessary infrastructure for Category 1 status was a significant challenge, requiring strategic planning and proactive engagement.

We successfully oversaw the project from initial planning to final handover, delivering a fully integrated, high-performance training facility that meets Birmingham FC’s long-term ambitions. Our work ensured high-quality installations, cost efficiency and smooth execution across all upgrades. By assessing contractor costs, providing informed recommendations and maintaining rigorous quality control, we ensured the facility met the highest standards.

THE IMPACT
Future-proofed for success

Our proactive approach accelerated timelines and streamlined decision-making, leveraging in-house expertise for MEP dome thermal modelling, ground investigation and fire engineering. Our on-site presence allowed quick issue resolution, and close collaboration with stakeholders ensured smooth communication.
