Cumberland Council’s Carlisle Southern Link Road will create a crucial east-west connection between Junction 42 of the M6 and the A595. Spanning 8km, it will reduce congestion, improve transport resilience and support the development of St Cuthbert’s Garden Village, a 10,000-home community. The project involves complex land agreements, multiple stakeholders and strict environmental requirements, demanding expert coordination and management to ensure successful delivery.

OUR RESPONSE
Expert Project Management and Planning

We have provided NEC4 Project Management and continue to provide Planning and Land Management services embedded as part of the client’s team. Our structured approach ensures robust contract and schedule management under NEC4, fostering collaboration between Cumberland Council and the contractor Galliford Try.

With a complex programme and multiple dependencies, we are closely working with the contractor’s team to manage schedules, track progress and assess the time impacts of compensation events. Our Land Project Manager plays a pivotal role in communication and collaboration with adjacent landowners, land agents, local businesses and the wider community, ensuring potential boundary and access issues are addressed in a proactive and timely manner, minimising disruption to construction.

As the project progresses, we continue to provide strategic oversight, addressing challenges and keeping the Carlisle Southern Link Road on track for completion.

Through collaboration, we are managing NEC Clause 32 programme acceptance, ensuring alignment with NEC principles.
