THE ASPIRATION
Building a complete picture of a global property portfolio
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) needed an accurate and up-to-date understanding of its global property portfolio, spanning 750 buildings across Central America and Central Africa. Existing records were outdated, missing key details about building fabric and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems. The FCDO required detailed, costed asset data to inform maintenance budgets and strategic estate planning – all within a challenging six-month timeframe and across regions with complex geopolitical and logistical conditions.
OUR RESPONSE
Delivering specialist surveys and asset data analysis
We assembled a multidisciplinary team of Building Surveyors, MEP Engineers and Structural Engineers to conduct in-depth site assessments across 34 locations. Our team efficiently surveyed 750 buildings and inspected an additional 160 structures beyond the initial scope, covering over 150,000 square meters – 20% more than initially planned. Properties ranged from embassy offices and ambassador residences to staff quarters, apartment blocks, storage facilities and secure compounds. We also documented finer details, such as swimming pools, stable blocks and tennis courts, ensuring a comprehensive dataset. By leveraging modern asset data collection technology, we delivered standardised, high-quality data efficiently, minimising time on-site while maximising accuracy.
THE RESULT
Delivering comprehensive, actionable data
Our detailed assessments provided the FCDO with a robust dataset, offering a clear and accurate baseline of their estate. This data is now being used to shape maintenance budgets, prioritise investment and inform long-term strategic planning. Our team’s ability to exceed the survey scope ensured that FCDO gained deeper insight into its estate, allowing for more informed decision-making.
THE LASTING IMPACT
Enabling informed decisions and long-term strategy
The success of this project was not just in the volume of data collected, but in the efficiency, adaptability and resilience of our team. Operating in regions with complex security and logistical challenges, our SAFE-trained staff navigated fragile environments, coordinated secure transport and worked extended shifts to meet the ambitious timeline. The result is a level of estate intelligence that enhances the FCDO’s ability to manage and maintain its global assets effectively, ensuring their properties remain safe, operational and fit for purpose in the years ahead.
