Princes SEN Primary School Liverpool

Combining learning, care and community

THE ASPIRATION
Meeting the need, raising the bar
Facing a growing demand for specialist education, Liverpool City Council set out to create a modern, inclusive and future-proofed SEN school. With four oversubscribed schools across the city, the vision was to unite them in one purpose-built facility for children aged four to eleven with severe learning disabilities. But this is more than just a school – it’s a nurturing, accessible environment designed around individual needs, with a powerful ambition: to build a lasting social legacy for the wider community.

OUR RESPONSE
Multidisciplinary by design
Appointed to deliver multidisciplinary services through to RIBA Stage 3 and planning submission, we are supporting the project across Architecture, MEP, Civil and Structural Engineering, Cost Management, Fire Consultancy, Health and Safety, Project Management, Sustainability, and Town and Country Planning.

The 63,000 square foot single-storey school is designed to be fully accessible, inclusive and Net Zero in use. Outdoor spaces are integral, shaped in collaboration with landscape architects to create sensory and forested areas that support wellbeing and learning beyond the classroom. Inside, 31 accessible classrooms, multisensory rooms and two hydrotherapy pools offer bespoke learning and therapeutic environments. A public-facing café and community space will further connect the school to the wider neighbourhood.

THE RESULT
A space to learn, grow and thrive
Subject to planning approval, Princes SEN Primary School will bring together 250 school places. Built on six acres of council-owned land, the facility will provide a home for high-quality SEN education in a space designed to meet the needs of pupils, families and staff. The scheme is targeting a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating and will be fully Net Zero in operation, future-proofing the school for generations to come.

THE LASTING IMPACT
A legacy for Liverpool
More than just a school, Princes SEN Primary will act as a centre of inclusion, support and aspiration for Liverpool. The project’s design empowers pupils to thrive in an environment tailored to their needs while creating positive community connections through shared facilities. By integrating educational excellence with sustainable design and social value, the school is set to make a meaningful, lasting difference.
