THE ASPIRATION
Creating a vibrant mixed-use community
Embankment West is a flagship development in Manchester’s Greengate area, forming a key part of the city’s ongoing regeneration. Select Property Group wanted to create a vibrant, mixed-use destination across three landmark buildings, blending residential living and high-end apart-hotel accommodation under their Affinity Living and CitySuites brands. With a total of 503 units, the scheme needed to deliver premium amenities, energy-efficient design and a lasting legacy in the city’s skyline.
OUR RESPONSE
Engineering excellence in urban living
Ridge provided Building Services Engineering, from RIBA Stage 1 through to contractor design monitoring and completion. The scheme’s urban location came with technical challenges, including the need to divert and protect critical fibre optic cabling beneath public realm areas. Our team devised a highly sensitive cable slewing operation, coordinating with asset owners to avoid costly re-cabling, safeguarding programme and budget.
We also delivered Part L modelling, TM59 overheating assessments and innovative MEP strategies, balancing high-spec solutions for CitySuites 2 with tightly controlled budgets for the PRS blocks.
THE RESULT
High-quality and high-efficiency residential and hospitality spaces
The development features two PRS towers with 356 units, alongside the 147-unit CitySuites 2 apart-hotel with luxury SuperSuites, swimming pool, spa and gym. Our carefully engineered services design enabled the delivery of high-performance, sustainable systems, including MVHR units, openable windows, photovoltaics and CHP – all tailored to the differing specifications across the three buildings. The development won ‘Residential High-Rise Development’ at the International Property Awards UK in 2019.
