THE ASPIRATION
A landmark development under immovable deadlines
Westfield Stratford City was planned as one of Europe’s largest urban shopping centres and a cornerstone of the wider Stratford City regeneration. Located next to the Olympic Park and major transport hubs, the £1 billion development needed to be delivered at unprecedented scale and complexity, and opened well ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games. With multiple stakeholders and intense public scrutiny, the challenge was to ensure certainty and predictability of schedule, budget and outcomes across a wide programme of interdependent projects.

OUR RESPONSE
Structuring complexity, driving momentum
We delivered Project Management services throughout a four-year pre-construction and planning period, helping Westfield Stratford City shape, structure and control the programme. We divided the development into a series of interlinked project clusters, creating a clear work breakdown structure and delivery sequence that could be managed with confidence.

We introduced robust business processes to help a first time UK developer establish a workable operational framework. We led design and procurement scheduling across each cluster, coordinated stakeholder engagement and worked closely with planning authorities. Ongoing change management, regular performance monitoring and transparent reporting meant evolving requirements could be handled without losing programme certainty.

Westfield Stratford City offers over 1.9 million square feet of retail space and is one of Europe’s largest urban shopping centres. Thanks to strong programme structure and clear governance, the development was opened ahead of schedule and in time for the London 2012 Olympics, giving stakeholders confidence and enabling the centre to play an important part in the Olympic legacy.
