Trafford General Hospital, Heat Decarbonisation

Ridge was appointed by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver heat decarbonisation plans and design replacement heating systems.

Our team investigated 15 buildings across three sites, determining the suitability of replacement technologies with regards to the operating temperatures of existing systems. We proposed a low carbon design that enables the facilities to avoid using the National Grid during carbon-intensive times of the day.

The new system will use a combination of energy storage and demand turn-down to minimise carbon emissions. The heat pumps are equipped with variable speed drives that can vary heat output and electricity demand.
