Birmingham Airport – Multiple Projects Birmingham

Boosting capacity, targeting Net Zero

THE ASPIRATION
More passengers, less carbon

Birmingham Airport’s ambitious £500 million masterplan aims to increase passenger capacity and upgrade facilities by 2033. This significant investment will modernise infrastructure while meeting the airport’s Net Zero by 2033 sustainability targets. Projects vary in size and include enhancements to terminal buildings, lighting systems and passenger facilities, all aligned with the airport’s capital investment plan and environmental commitments.

OUR RESPONSE
Integrated expertise

We delivered multidisciplinary expertise, including Building Services Engineering, Building Surveying, Cost Management and Civil Engineering, to support a wide range of projects from feasibility to construction.

A key initiative was the thermal modelling of the existing terminal, uncovering energy-saving opportunities that shaped future heating and ventilation strategies. Our Quantity Surveying and MEP Cost Management teams provided costed options to demonstrate capital investment and energy-saving payback periods. We also conducted lighting feasibility studies across terminal and airfield buildings, identifying opportunities for LED upgrades that enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

We played a key role on baggage and immigration expansion works, where we supported the remodelling of the arrivals terminal building to streamline passenger processing and baggage handling. Our contributions included comprehensive MEP surveys, geospatial services and risk mitigation strategies to ensure smooth integration of new infrastructure. Additional projects ranged from GSE EV charging feasibility to a fire station thermal upgrade, each contributing to the airport’s long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.

THE RESULT
Upgraded systems, seamless operations

Our contributions streamlined critical infrastructure projects at Birmingham Airport, from energy efficiency upgrades to terminal remodelling. Our solutions improved operational capacity while supporting the airport’s sustainability goals, paving the way for future growth
