Delivering Bulgaria’s first international-standard circuit

THE ASPIRATION
Putting Bulgaria on the motorsport map
Historically, drivers and riders in Bulgaria had to travel abroad to train and compete due to the country’s lack of modern motorsport facilities. The ambition behind A1 Motor Park was to create a new, high-quality circuit close to Sofia that could host both cars and motorcycles, meet FIA and FIM standards, and become a long-term home for national and international motorsport.  

OUR RESPONSE
Delivering a brand-new permanent race track
We were appointed to design the race circuit and masterplan for A1 Motor Park (formerly named LARA Racing Circuit), and we supported the project at every stage, from the initial concept through to completion. Our team provided Race Track Design, Civil Engineering, Homologation Design and Construction Support services, as well as operational support to the local team ahead of opening. 

We designed a 4km circuit with a flowing, dynamic layout that combines high-speed straights, challenging technical corners and undulating elevation changes. A key challenge was balancing the needs and characteristics of cars and motorcycles while meeting FIA and FIM standards to ensure authentic and exciting racing. 

Through close coordination with these governing bodies, the client (GBS Energy Solutions) and the local design team, including IPA Architecture, we developed a track and facilities that are world-class. 

THE RESULT
A circuit ready to host international motorsport events
A1 Motor Park is a world class venue offering all the facilities required to host both national and international competitions. The site features an FIA and FIM compliant race circuit, pit building (including race control, garages, briefing rooms and a restaurant), and hospitality spaces and spectator viewing areas. The venue is scheduled to open in March 2026.

THE LASTING IMPACT
Driving motorsport growth across the region
The circuit puts Bulgaria firmly on the motorsport map, ready to host international events and visitors while providing local competitors with a world-class facility close to home. It will play a lasting role in growing motorsport participation and profile across the region and creates a new destination for sport and leisure in the country.
